I looked up at the trail in front of me. Called “Coronary,” it’s a steep uphill climb that I usually avoid on my mountain bike. But not this year.

Despite my tired legs, my goal was to reach the top; a feat I had never seriously set my sights on before.

As I started the climb and passed a few of my friends walking their bikes, they began cheering, “You’ve got this!” Something shifted. I wasn’t going fast, but I was determined to make it up that steep climb. Not just for me, but for all the women on this bike trip.

When I finally reached the top, I celebrated with everyone around me.

I made it.

That is the power of community in action.

Our annual mountain bike trip to Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom is always an adventure. As a group, we ride longer and harder than I normally would on my own. We cheer each other on. We don’t judge when someone needs to dismount to walk through a rock garden or skip a particularly tricky descent. It’s a safe, supportive community to ride with.

One of my superpowers is bringing groups of women together to learn from and support one another. Community gives us permission to think bigger, dream bigger, and achieve more. Whether it’s climbing a steep trail or reaching a significant business goal, women have an incredible ability to lift each other up.

Here are a few reasons why.

Our survival depended on it. In primitive times, women often stayed behind while the men hunted. Working together helped them not only survive but thrive. In many ways, that instinct for connection and cooperation is still with us today.

Sharing resources is in our DNA. Women naturally share ideas, tips, and resources that save others time and energy. Whether it’s recommending a great hairdresser or the latest productivity app, sharing knowledge feels good and it’s part of how many of us do business.

Collaborative problem-solving is our superpower. When faced with a challenge, women typically like to talk it through and gather different perspectives. Rather than rushing to solve someone else’s problem, we help each other explore possibilities so the person facing the challenge can make the best decision for herself.

Together, we achieve more. Women know they can accomplish more when they’re surrounded by people who believe in them. Members of my coaching groups have doubled their revenue, published books, and left toxic workplaces. Many have told me they wouldn’t have made those changes without the encouragement, accountability, and support of the group.

It can be lonely at the top. Leading a business can be isolating, especially as a successful woman in a male-dominated industry like finance. Community creates a sense of belonging, reduces that isolation, and reminds us that we don’t have to do it alone. When we feel supported and validated, we’re more willing to take bold action and we enjoy the journey a whole lot more.

That’s exactly what my Mentor Coaching Group for Women Financial Advisors is designed to provide.

It’s a community of like-minded women who are committed to growing their businesses, celebrating each other’s wins, navigating challenges together, and holding one another accountable to their biggest goals.

There is currently one spot available in the group.
